Arsenal reveal starting XI against Brighton as they aim to ‘lead the league’

Arsenal hosts Brighton & Hove Albion in a battle for the league lead.

Arsenal will host Brighton at the Emirates Stadium in London, England, on Sunday at 11 p.m. ET in the 17th round of the 2023-24 English Premier League (EPL).

Arsenal will start with Laya, White, Saliba, Magalhaes, Zinchenko, Reiss, Haberz, Ödegaard, Sakho, Martinelli, and Jejus.

Brighton will start Verbruggen, Dunk, Milner, Gilmour, Gross, Lallana, Mitoma, Adingrah, Ferguson, Van Hecke, and Veltman.

Arsenal are coming off a 1-1 draw in their UEFA Champions League (UCL) match against PSV Eindhoven in midweek. With a spot in the round of 16 already secured, the Gunners traveled to the Netherlands and rotated their lineup to rest some of their starters, earning a point.

The previous weekend, they lost 0-1 away to Aston Villa. The Gunners conceded a goal to McGinn in the seventh minute of the first half, and despite playing aggressively and creating a number of chances after that, they were unable to finish in crucial situations and suffered their second defeat in the league.

With the loss, Arsenal lost the league lead to Liverpool. With 11 wins, three draws, and two losses, Arsenal is now in second place, one point behind leaders Liverpool.

The Gunners have not won in two games, losing to Villa and drawing with PSV. With their six-game unbeaten streak halted, Arsenal will be looking for a win at Brighton to regain the top spot.

Brighton won their UEFA Europa League (UEL) match against Olympique de Marseille in midweek, 1-0, thanks to Pedro’s late winner. With the win, Brighton leapfrogged Marseille to top their group and advance to the round of 16.

Brighton’s recent form has been good. With three wins, one draw, and one defeat in their last five games, the Seagulls are on the upswing and have only suffered one defeat since October 21st against Manchester City.

In the recent head-to-heads between the two teams, Brighton have the edge. Arsenal have just one win in their last five matches, including cup competitions, and have lost one, drawn one and lost three.
