Son’s goal-getting ability in this season is still one of the best in the English Premier League. Son was spotlighted once again when he was named in an unusual best lineup selected by a statistics media.

Soccer statistics media WhoScored Dotcom unveiled its unique best lineup of EPL players for the 2023-24 season on the morning of the 7th. The media made up the lineup only of players who are performing above the expected score xG for each position. In other words, the top 10 players were selected by subtracting the xG value from the actual score.

Among the 10 players excluding the goalkeeper, Son recorded the highest number. Son has scored 13 goals in the league this season. And based on PCOD, the xG value is 8.24. Son, who should have scored eight goals, scored five more. The figure excluding the score and xG value stands at 4.76, which is the overwhelming No. 1 player in the EPL. Son is the only one who exceeds 4.0 in the corresponding figure.

Son Heung-min has displayed remarkable performance this season. Even though he was away for the AFC Asian Cup last month, he still maintains his goal-getting ability. He is still tying for fifth in the EPL scoring list. He has a gap of only five goals with Erling Holan of Manchester City, who is ranked first. Holan has a xG of 21.89, but he actually scored 18 goals. Contrary to Son, the figure obtained by subtracting the score and the xG value reaches -3.89.

Jarrod Bowen is comparable to Son Heung-min in the position. He recorded 3.57 in the corresponding figure, ranking second in the EPL after Son Heung-min.

Bernardu Silva Man City, Mohamed Kudus West Ham, Leon Bailey Aston Villa, Declan Rice Asnal, Mathias Jensen Brentford, Christian Romero Tottenham, Thiago Silva Chelsea and Marcos Sennesi Bonmouth were named in the squad.

Hwang Hee-chan, who scored 10 goals in this season’s league, is also on the top 10 list. Hwang Hee-chan’s xG stands at 7.02, while his score minus 2.98, ranking seventh overall in the EPL. However, his name was excluded from the best lineup, as he was lagging behind fellow players Son Heung-min and Bailey.

Meanwhile, Dominic Calvert-Lewin Everton has the worst gap between scoring and xG. He has scored only three goals in the league this season, with xG reaching a whopping 9.3. He should have scored nine, but only three, with the gap reaching -6.3. Darwin Núñez Liverpool was then listed in Worst 3 with -4.26 and Nicola Jackson Chelsea with -4.19.
