Korean women’s volleyball team competes in Asia Championship

For the Asia Championships, a Korean women’s volleyball team flies to Thailand.

The Korean women’s volleyball team left for Thailand on Monday morning to compete in the 2023 Asian Volleyball Championships.

The tournament kicks off on Sept. 30 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, and ends on Sept. 6.

The team, led by head coach Cesar Gonzalez, has set its sights on a top-four finish.

It’s a goal that reflects the harsh reality of Korean women’s volleyball, which has dropped to 35th in the world rankings.

In Group C, Korea will face Vietnam (48th) on Aug. 30, Chinese Taipei (51st) on Aug. 31, and Uzbekistan (69th) on Sept. 1.

The top two finishers in Pool C will play the top two teams from Pool A – Thailand (16th), Australia (53rd) and Mongolia (62nd) – in the quarterfinal round.

Coach Cesar has selected setters Kim Da-in (Hyundai E&C) and Kim Ji-won (GS Caltex), middle blockers Park Eun-jin and Jung Ho-young (both KGC Ginseng), Lee Da-hyun (Hyundai E&C), Lee Ju-ah (Heungkuk Life), and outside hitter Lee Sun-woo (KGC Ginseng), outside hitters Park Jung-ah and Lee Han-bi (Pepper Savings Bank), Pyo Seung-joo (IBK), Kang So-hwi and Kwon Min-ji (GS Caltex), libero Kim Yeon-yeon (Hyundai E&C) and Moon Jung-won (Korea Expressway Corporation).

South Korea has never won the Asian Championship, which began in 1975. Its best recent result was a second-place finish in 2015.

China (6th) and Japan (8th) will send their best teams to the Paris 2024 Olympic qualifiers. The team for the Asian Championships is a “step down” from the previous edition.

For South Korea, the Asian Championships could be their chance to challenge for the top.

The same team will compete at the Asian Championships, the Paris Olympic Qualifiers, and the Asian Games.

After the tournament, the team will travel to Poland to compete in Group C of the Paris Olympic Qualification against Italy (2nd), USA (3rd), Poland (7th), Germany (12th), Thailand, Colombia (21st), and Slovenia (25th). A top-two finish in Group C will qualify the team for Paris, but realistically, the team is not confident of even one win.

After the qualifiers, the team will travel to Hangzhou, China, 먹튀검증토토사이트 to prepare for the Hangzhou Asian Games.
