Detroit defeated Houston, 3-1, in Game 1 of the American League Wild Card Decider for the 2024 Major League Baseball Postseason at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas, on Sunday (Feb. 2).

Detroit “Ace” Tarik Skubal, who led the American League in wins, ERA, and strikeouts in the regular season, pitched six innings of four-hit, six-strikeout, one-walk ball. In 31 regular-season appearances this year, he pitched 192 innings with an 18-4 record, 2.39 ERA, and 228 strikeouts.

After getting Houston’s first batter, Jose Altuve, to fly out to left field in the top of the first inning with the score tied 0-0, Scoubal got Kyle Tucker to ground out to short and Jordan Alvarez to ground out to short. He threw Alvarez a sinker that touched 98.4 mph (158.3 km/h) on his second pitch.

Scoobal retired the first batter of the second inning, Alec Bregman, on an infield grounder. All three pitches were four-seam fastballs. He then retired Diaz on a grounder to the pitcher and Peña on a swinging strikeout.

In the top of the third,

Caratini gave up a leadoff single to left, but Dubon induced a grounder to shortstop to get the lead runner and Meyers struck out swinging to load the bases.

A single to left by Altuve put runners on first and second, 파워볼실시간 but he got Tucker to fly out to left field to end the threat.

In the top of the second, the Tigers had three runs. Detroit put runners on second and third on RBI singles by Jake Rogers, Trey Sweeney, and Matt Biering to make it 3-0.

Scoobal gave up a single up the middle to Alvarez, the first batter of the fourth inning. Bregman followed with a fly ball to right field and gave up a walk to Diaz.

With runners on first and second, he got Peña and Caratini back-to-back swinging strikes to get out of the jam. With the bases loaded, Scoubal threw a 99.7-mph sinker and an 88.5-mph changeup to Caratini, his fastest pitch of the day.

After a triple play in the fifth, Scoobal struck out Diaz on a wild pitch with two outs in the sixth to end the inning.

Detroit went to its bullpen in the seventh and gave up a single to Diaz with runners on first and third in the bottom of the ninth, but no further damage was done.
