MLB White Sox fire manager after ’21-game losing streak’… Sizemore to take over

The Chicago White Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB), who just recently snapped a 21-game losing streak, have fired their manager.

The White Sox announced on Monday (Sept. 9) that they have terminated the contracts of manager Pedro Griffol, bench coach Charlie Montoyo, third base coach Eddie Rodriguez and assistant hitting coach Mike Tosa.

“We were aware of the power issues, but we expected to win more games than we are,” White Sox general manager Chris Getz said in explaining the terminations.

“We plan to conduct an external search for a permanent manager after the season,” Getz said.

In the meantime, the White Sox have announced that Grady Sizemore, the team’s infield and first base coach, will serve as acting manager.

The White Sox have been plagued by a severe power shortage this season, leading to their worst team record.

They lost 14 straight games from May 23 against the Toronto Blue Jays to June 7 against the Boston Red Sox, setting a new franchise record for the longest losing streak, and then lost 21 straight games from July 11 against the Minnesota Twins to June 6 against the Oakland Athletics.

Not only did the White Sox set a new franchise record for the longest losing streak in franchise history, but they also tied the American League (AL) record for the longest losing streak.

The team narrowly escaped the losing streak with a win in Oakland on July 7, but lost again in Oakland on July 8.

As of Sept. 9, the White Sox are 28-89 with a .239 winning percentage, the lowest among the 30 teams.

At their current pace, they are on pace to break the MLB record for most losses in a season (40) since the 20th century, set by the New York Mets in 1962. 메이저사이트
