Korea University won the 2024 KUSF College Basketball U-League South Championship 79-70 against Kookmin University on Friday at Hwajung Gymnasium in Seoul, South Korea. With this result, KU made history by becoming the first university to win the title for three consecutive years.
Leading the way was sophomore Yoo Hyun Moon (181 cm, G). As the only player on the team to play full-time, Moon was on fire with 29 points, including three 3-pointers, 13 assists, and seven rebounds. As for his one-on-one strategy against KU’s Freddie, he said, “If there’s a mismatch with the center, I’m confident that I can hit everything. If the opponent blocks me with a switch, I will always be bold.”
Moon also had a message for the seniors who were leaving the team after the game. He said, “My older brothers have contributed a lot to the team over the past four years. They have led the juniors well for one year, and their dedication has touched me a lot,” he said, expressing his affection for the seniors.
When asked what kind of player he wants to be, he said, “As a senior next year, I want to be more mature and support the younger players. Even if I’m not the main player, I’ll play the role of a helper,” he said, foreshadowing his newfound maturity.
“I’m so happy. I will never forget this day,” Moon said.
“Every time my brother (Moon Jung-hyun of Suwon KT) and I go to a game, my parents go to pray every night. Even though they are both working, they pray without rest. I want to tell my mom and dad that I love them so much,” he said, expressing his sincerity to his parents.
“I read about my brother’s (ankle ligament tear) injury on the news. I was very upset before the game. I hope he gets better soon and I hope he does his best,” he said, showing tears, which were washed away by his teammates.
